  • Blu-Ray discs


Tell me about it

  • Blu-Ray discs are a fairly new technology that have a lot of potential. They have the ability to hold up to 50GB of data which is over 10x most DVDs and over 50x most CDs.


How can it be used in education

  • Blu-Ray discs could be used in education because if we invested in blu-ray players, we could store a lot of information on one disc, specifically if we had a video class or maybe you record school events or plays. You can fit a lot more data on the same sized disc.

What is?

  • Usually computer software for which the source code is freely available.

Application for them?

  • They can be used to gather information about a specific subject and they can be used to post minute-by-minute updates about a live event or just a simple post about a personal experience.

2. Cloud Computing

What is?
  • Cloud computing is a general term for anything that involves delivering hosted services over the Internet.

Advantages?
  • Lower computer costs.
  • Improved performance.
  • Unlimited storage capacity.
  • Device independence.

Disadvantages?
  • Requires a constant Internet connection.
  • Doesn't work well with low-speed connections.
  • Stored data might not be secure and could be lost.

Trend in education?
  • Universal access to files can allow students to access a word document from a teachers "cloud" or vice versa.

1. Texting

What is?
  • Texting is a way of communicating with others using letters, numbers, and punctuation. Text messages are sent from cell phones.

Benefits of?
  • The benefits of texting are if you are in a crowded or loud place you might not be able to hear the person on the phone, but you could send a text message to someone. Texts are generally used as a way of communicating when the surrounding environment isn't the proper place to talk.
